Is it too late to grow on TikTok?

You might think that because the platform has been out for a few years, it might be too late to grow or become "TikTok famous" ... but it's not.  It’s all about putting in the time to learn about the app and taking the time to post. Well, you have already taken one big step by reading this blog!

Why should you start a TikTok account as part of your 2022 strategy?

If you’re not at least trying to use TikTok in your growth strategy, you’re truly missing out. In September 2021, TikTok reported 1 billion monthly active users worldwide. And as that number grows, it’s the perfect time to learn how to use TikTok - and no, it’s definitely not too late!

There are millions of people on TikTok who are there to enjoy new, exciting, fun, and educational content. Even an account with zero followers can go viral if its content connects and resonates with the viewers.

How can you optimize your TikTok account for growth?

When you first start your TikTok account, you will want to take some time to optimize your account for growth. If you really want to prioritize your other Social Media Platforms, like Instagram or YouTube - the first thing you will want to do is add those links to your TikTok bio, so that you're cross-promoting your active platforms. One huge bonus, when someone clicks your link - it will actually lead directly to that app - versus staying within the app as we find on Instagram.

With your TikTok bio, you will construct this the same as you would for Instagram - include some good keywords and some information about the value you're going to provide. Most people won't be finding profiles by searching on TikTok, so think about crafting your bio around someone who visits your profile after seeing a viral video and letting them know what to expect if they decide to follow.

Also, something to remember - TikTok is a very casual platform, so don't be afraid to be laid back and even add a joke or two.

How do the first 3 videos you post on TikTok affect the algorithm?

Let’s chat about those first few posts you plan to create for TikTok. When it comes to posting on TikTok for the first time - it differs from other platforms. Normally with other social media platforms, I would recommend experimenting and just going for it - but on TikTok, I actually recommend putting a bit more thought into your plans and strategy. It has been said that the first 3-5 videos you post can make a huge impact on the performance of your future videos.

It’s kind of like a testing ground for TikTok to find out if your profile is going to provide videos that keep people engaged on the platform.

How often should you post on TikTok?

Once you finally get started, you might be wondering how often you should be posting. Per an article I found on Audiosocket, they said “For TikTok, we recommend around 1-3 times a day if you’re building your following. Some bigger TikTokkers will post up to 10 times a day, but this may be a little much when starting out. If you’re more established on the platform, try posting a couple within a day.

But do you have time to even post once a day? Obviously, with all platforms - posting more often can provide you more chances for growth - but I would recommend choosing a posting schedule that you can keep up with, as consistency is just as important as posting frequently.

I would also recommend looking at competitors in your niche, you can learn a lot from the success of others. See how often their posting and what days and times seem to work best for them. Research is key!

What content performs well on TikTok?

Now, what content should you be creating to maximize your chances for growth? TikTok has a huge trend culture - which is a bit different than we have been used to on other social media platforms. Your creative video ideas can perform well, but the best performing TikToks are usually those who are following a trend. There are viral trends for almost everything - dancing, lip-syncing, fashion transitions, hacks, educational content, and more.

The biggest key to being successful on TikTok is knowing how to find these trends.

How can you fit TikTok into the rest of your content strategy?

TikTok can be a great addition to your existing content strategy. It is a great traffic generation tool because it helps with your reach. If you can create a really engaging video that keeps people to the very end and makes people want to interact - like tapping the like button, comment, or share. This will help you show up on more For You Pages, which in turn can gain you more followers. If you optimize your bio to include links to your other social platforms, this growth can spill over to those platforms as well.

TikTok is also a great way to generate traffic for your business. There are so many great stories about small businesses that skyrocketed after having a viral TikTok. You can never fully calculate how to go viral, but it's something to think about and prepare for if you start using TikToks for your business promotion.
